| Focus on Fundraising: One Last Push! |
We'd like to thank all the plungers in Portland, Bend and beyond for their support and dedication to the Plunge this year. Collectively, you have raised over $100,000 for Special Olympics Oregon and the thousands of individuals with intellectual disabilities that we serve. This number is astounding, and we appreciate it, but we still have some work to do! In the next 9 days, we hope to raise an additional $180,000 in Polar Plunge pledges. It’s a big goal, but with your help, we can do it!
Please take the time to send out one last round of emails and calls to help reach or exceed your personal fundraising goal. Every bit helps!
If you aren't plunging this year, we would like to encourage you to support Special Olympics Oregon athlete Chris Rukaveno in his plunge. Please consider supporting his efforts by sponsoring his plunge, and asking your past Polar Plunge donors and friends to support Chris.
His page can be found at: http://www.firstgiving.com/deannarukaveno. This season, Chris and his A-Division basketball team, the High Desert Global Worms placed 3rd in this year's regional competition in Turner. |
| Why I Plunge |
| Kecia Weaver, Bend Police Officer |
“The Polar Plunge is a wild and fun way to support Special Olympics. Plunging in uniform is a unique way to represent police officer's support for the athletes. Only a great cause like this would cause me to even consider jumping in the ice-cold water. The costumes some people wear are hilarious and it's a real party atmosphere. I challenge you to try it, it's actually really fun and not something many people can say they've done!”
Kecia Weaver has been an officer with the Bend Police Department for 10 years, and has been the Chair of the Polar Plunge Steering Committee and one of the head coordinators of the plunge in Bend since it’s first year in 2007. Kecia will be plunging again this year along with her 7 year-old daughter Morgan (pictured below) and 4 year-old son Nathan.
