Multnomah County Snowboarding Coach Chad Marcus and Special Olympics Athlete Ashley Medlock
Coaching for Special Olympics has been a passion of mine for the past eight years. In that time, I have had the pleasure of witnessing many great achievements while people I coach grow as individuals and as athletes. It has been a great opportunity to volunteer for Special Olympics and I often find myself feeling as though I am the one who has received more in this venture.
In an attempt to remedy this dilemma, I have found fundraising is one way I can give back. Over the past two years, the Polar Plunge has provided a platform for me to be a member of the Popsicle Princesses as we plunge into the 35 degree water. This year marks my third plunge and I can honestly say that I am SUPER excited! I encourage everyone to plunge in 2009!
Chad began volunteering with Special Olympics Oregon in 2000 when he get involved with his cousin and Special Olympics athlete Matthew Wallace’s snowboarding team. Chad’s Polar Plunge goal in 2009 is to raise $1,000 in pledges and take the plunge in both the Columbia and Deschutes rivers.
